Stravax Engage traces each WhatsApp conversation back to the ad or link that started it, using two paths. Meta's click-to-WhatsApp ads carry a click token into the first message, so attribution is automatic. Every other entry point, wa.me links, website buttons, or Google and TikTok ads, is traced through a tracked-link redirect that captures click ids and UTM parameters first.
When someone clicks a Meta ad that opens a WhatsApp conversation, Meta passes a click token into that first message. Stravax Engage reads the token automatically and attaches it to the lead as soon as the message arrives, with no setup required. If a contact clicks more than one ad before messaging, Stravax Engage keeps the very first attributed touch as the lead's official source and records every later click as an additional touchpoint on the lead's timeline.
For wa.me links, website buttons, or Google and TikTok message ads, create a tracked link in Stravax Engage instead of a plain wa.me link. When someone clicks it, Stravax Engage records the click id (Google gclid/gbraid/wbraid, Meta fbclid, TikTok ttclid, or Microsoft msclkid) and any UTM parameters, then redirects the visitor to WhatsApp with a short reference code pre-filled into the message. When that first message arrives, Stravax Engage matches the reference code back to the recorded click and attributes the conversation to it.
Add this snippet to your website to capture ad clicks before a visitor even reaches WhatsApp:
<script src="https://app.stravax.ai/t.js?k=YOUR_WEB_FORM_KEY" async></script>
Replace YOUR_WEB_FORM_KEY with your organization's key from Connections. Once installed, the script captures click ids and UTM parameters as visitors browse your site, stores them for a period so they survive between the ad click and the eventual WhatsApp message, and automatically rewrites any wa.me link on the page to route through your tracked-link bridge. That means a visitor doesn't need to click a specific tracked link by hand: any wa.me link on a page carrying the script gets the same attribution.
If a first message arrives with no token and no matching click, Stravax Engage looks for exactly one recent, unmatched click from a tracked link tied to that WhatsApp number within the last hour. If there's exactly one candidate, it's linked as a probable match and flagged accordingly. If there's more than one candidate, or none, Stravax Engage doesn't guess: no attribution is forced onto an ambiguous case.
